Nikola Tesla was born on 10th July 1856 in Croatia. This Serbian American was born and raised in Croatia, where he got his advanced degree in engineering and physics. He later migrated to the United States in 1884.  A pioneer of electromagnetic induction and the inventor of alternating current (AC)  holds about 300 patents. Tesla’s invention of Alternating Current became the basis for developments in various fields in modern science. However, his contributions remained unrecognized for several years. 1. He was predicted as ‘the Child of Darkness’:

Tesla was born during a fierce lightning storm that stuck Croatia during the midnight between July 9th and 10th of 1856.  Since he was born during the lightning, a midwife declared it to be a bad omen and he was declared as a child of darkness. However, his mother considered him to be a son of light.

 

2. Tesla’s father wanted him to be a priest:

Nikola Tesla’s father was a priest in Church. His father wanted him to join the church and pursue his career as a church priest.

 

3. Born in Croatia and Moved to the USA in 1884:

In the pursuit of his high ambitions, Tesla decided to move to the USA in the year 1884 only to join hands with his future arch-rival ‘Thomas Alva Edison’.

 

4. Arch-Rivalry with Thomas Alva Edison:

Though, both the electrical giants worked together initially, ‘The War of Currents’ among the duo created an arch-rivalry. Edison’s Direct Current was popular in the initial years. However, there was a problem with regard to conversion of voltage. On the other hand, Tesla’s invention of Alternative Current (AC) made it possible to convert voltage. And that’s how ‘The War of Currents’ began

 

5. Designed the first Hydro Electric Power Plant:

Tesla designed the first Hydro Electric Power plant which was installed at Niagra Falls in the United States. The Power generated from the project was used in the electrification of Buffalo city, New York.

 

6. Tesla’s first invention was a Voice Amplifier:

Not many know that Tesla’s first invention was a Voice Amplifier for a Telephone Reciever in the year 1881.

 

7. He actually had a vision of Smartphones way back in the early 1900’s:

And to everyone’s surprise, Tesla already had a vision of developing Smartphones way back in the year 1901. It’s believed that Tesla had already discussed his vision of developing smartphones with J.P. Morgan.

 

 8. Tesla drew his inspiration from his mother:

Tesla drew his interest in electricity only due to his mother – Djuka Mandic. While Tesla was still young, his mother kept inventing little electrical appliances. This eventually, drew tesla’s attention in electricity.

 

9. Was a sharp dresser and inclined obsessively to hygiene:

This remarkable inventor stands 6 feet 2 inches with deep eyes. He was a fashionable and sharp dresser. Moreover, he was excessively inclined towards hygiene and cleanliness.

 

10. Remained a Celibate:

Though Tesla was highly fashionable and was known to be the most desirable among women in those days, he still remained a celibate his entire life. He even quotes: ” I don’t think you can name many great inventions that have been made by married men.” Many even attribute Celibacy as the secret to his achievements.
